Good telecallers are patient, clear on the phone and comfortable with rejection. Skills you can train; attitude you cannot. These questions help you tell the difference in a 20-minute interview.
Communication
- Tell me about yourself in one minute. (Listen for clarity and pace.)
- Explain a product you like to me as if I were new to it. (Simple words, no jargon.)
- How do you speak to someone who is angry? (Calm voice, listening first.)
- Which languages are you comfortable calling in? (Match to your market.)
Resilience
- How do you feel after ten rejections in a row? (Looks for learning, not excuses.)
- What do you do when a customer says no politely? (Asks one more question, thanks them.)
- Describe a time you hit a target. (Real example, real steps.)
- What keeps you motivated on slow days?
Process and discipline
- How do you plan your calling day?
- How would you remember follow-ups for 100 leads? (Mentions reminders or a CRM.)
- What would you note after each call?
- How do you handle a lead that was promised a callback by someone else?
Honesty and fit
- A customer asks something you do not know. What do you say? (I will find out and call back.)
- Would you promise a discount you are not sure about to close a sale? Why not?
- Why do you want to be a telecaller?
- What salary and incentive do you expect?
Quick role-play test
Give them a one-line product and a customer who says “I am busy”. Watch for a polite opening, a short question and a clear next step. Five minutes is enough.
